2012/2013 AFRICAN TOURS

These tours cover South Africa with effect from 2008.

The South African tours which we offer will cover inter alia:

  • Tours round and about the Cities of Durban, Cape Town, Kimberley, Kingwilliamstown and Pietermaritzburg;
  • Tours throughout the Province of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN);
  • Tours covering some areas of other Provinces like the Western, Northern and Eastern Cape;
  • Overland tours from KZN and into KZN;
  • 10 to 15 day tours covering large parts of South Africa, either beginning or ending in KZN.

The tour content will cover such topics as:

  • The Battlefields in KwaZulu-Natal, such as the epic Battles of Isandlwana – 22nd January 1879, and Rorke's Drift – 22nd/23rd January 1879: Spioenkop – 24th January 1900 and Colenso on 15th December 1899. In the Western Cape we visit the Battle of Blaauberg just north of Cape Town, in January 1806 and then move up to Kimberley in the Northern Cape to examine and visit sites in this region. From the Northern Cape we travel to the Eastern Cape where we tramp and visit the Battlesites of the Xhosa Wars leading to the Ninth and last Battle in 1878. We visit the border towns of Grahamstown and Kingwilliamstown.
  • All these battles involved the British Forces (with particular emphasis on the troops of 24th Foot Regiment), as well as the Boer Commandos under the command of such well known names as Piet Joubert & Louis Botha. The third army was the forces of the unpredictable Xhosa in the earlier days, and the mighty Zulu warriors into the latter part of the 1800's;
  • We visit battlegrounds and cemeteries with explanations and re-enactments of the battle stories with presentations by skilled and knowledgeable story-tellers and guides.

  • Wild animals sanctuaries such as the Hluhluwe and Umfolozi Game Parks & Reserves in KwaZulu-Natal. Here there is plenty of time to relax on a safari and traverse the Park in open safari type vehicles. This Park contains the Big Five in wildlife and a large variety of antelope and animals such as giraffe, zebra and wildebeest.
  • Mountain splendour tours into the mighty Drakensberg Mountains where the opportunity exists to hike and trail and see the artistic world of the Bushmen and their Rock Art, or just take in the sheer splendour or the mountain scenery!
  • Spouses' Programmes when it becomes too much for the one spouse / partner to follow your other half and there is the wish to do something different! Some examples of this could be shopping trips, cultural visits, handcraft exhibitions.
    There might even be the wish to go swimming on a beach, micro lighting or even visiting a farm such as thoroughbred race horses.
    We have a variety of Casino and entertainment centres as well as a large variety of theatres and entertainment centres.
  • Visits to the Winelands of the Western Cape and scenic tours pf the Cape Peninsula are also part of the tour content. Depending on the time of the year for the tour that you arrange there is a real opportunity of whalewatching off the Cape Coast and the KZN Coast.
